This year marks the 38th anniversary of the 999 for Kids program. Through Department efforts, this program has played a significant role in the lives of thousands of children throughout Los Angeles County. The program provides a beam of hope for children who have endured unimaginable hardships. This vital initiative, a partnership between the Special Victims Bureau, the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and our compassionate community, has been instrumental in offering financial support beyond the basic needs for children who are victims of child abuse.
At the heart of the 999 for Kids program lies a profound mission — to extend a lifeline to children who have faced the most severe cases of abuse, neglect and domestic violence. These resilient young souls, under the supervision of DCFS, often require specialized care and support due to physical or medical conditions, including life-threatening illnesses. While tax dollars cover their basic needs, the 999 for Kids Program steps in to fulfill additional care requirements that are essential for their well-being and development.
By supporting the 999 for Kids program, you will make a tangible difference in the lives of these deserving children. Your generosity enables us to:
- Provide unique gifts: From wheelchairs to braille machines, computers to specialized summer camps, your donations help fulfill the unique needs of each child, ensuring they have the tools and resources to thrive.
- Recognize achievements: Through our annual Ice Cream Social, we celebrate the resilience and achievements of our program children. Your contributions enable us to honor our poster child and award scholarships, instilling a sense of pride and encouragement in their journey.
- Create joyful memories: Our annual end-of-year Christmas event is a highlight for the children in our program. With age-appropriate gifts, delicious meals, photos with Santa, a petting zoo, and stimulating and fun-filled activities, we create cherished memories that brighten their spirits during the holiday season.
Join us in supporting the 2024 Child Abuse Awareness Pledge Drive.
The drive will begin on July 1, 2024, and end on July 31, 2024. The goal for units with more than 100 employees is to raise $999, and for units with fewer than 100 employees, to raise $500. All units that meet or exceed this goal will be recognized by Sheriff Luna and our 2024 poster child, Sudara, during the Ice Cream Social in August 2024.
